On September 14, IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 opened in Hannover, Germany. On the opening day, BAIC FOTON held its Global Strategy and New Product Launch, where it officially introduced the CAVAN BEACON, its flagship new-energy heavy-duty truck. Designed for long-haul transportation, the CAVAN BEACON focuses on key operational priorities such as energy replenishment efficiency, payload capacity, and long-term operating performance. Developed on a dedicated platform compatible with both hydrogen and battery-electric powertrains, the vehicle applies integrated system innovation to address real-world operational needs and provides a more comprehensive product approach for the deployment of new-energy heavy-duty trucks in long-haul transportation.

Megawatt Charging, Keeping Energy Replenishment in Step with Transport Operations
For battery-electric heavy-duty trucks, charging efficiency directly affects how smoothly the vehicle can fit into existing transport schedules. Shorter charging times help reduce additional downtime caused by recharging and support more efficient vehicle operations.
CAVAN BEACON supports charging power of up to 1.44 MW, enabling a 20%–80% charge in around 18 minutes. A 6-minute charge can add approximately 100 km of driving range. The hydrogen fuel-cell version can be refueled in about 15 minutes and offers a driving range of up to 1,000 km.

For new energy heavy-duty trucks, the additional weight of the power battery can directly affect the vehicle’s available payload. At the same time, energy consumption is also an important factor in long-term operating costs.

CAVAN BEACON incorporates 62 innovations in materials, structural design and manufacturing processes, helping reduce vehicle weight by more than 500 kg. Its integrated aerodynamic design for the tractor and trailer achieves a drag coefficient as low as 0.28. Combined with optimized powertrain and thermal management, these measures help reduce overall vehicle energy consumption by 15%.

The lightweight design provides greater capacity for payload, while improved energy efficiency helps reduce energy use over the same transport distance. Together, these technologies support fleet operators in optimizing both payload capacity and energy costs.
1,000,000 km Durability, Supporting a Longer Operating Lifecycle
Heavy-duty trucks operate under demanding conditions, making the service life of key new-energy components an important factor in vehicle uptime, replacement cycles and overall asset utilization. The CAVAN BEACON’s fuel cell system and e-axle are designed for a B10 service life of more than 1.6 million km, while its 677 kWh battery modules support a service life of over 2 million km. The cab has also passed certification in accordance with the EU ECE R29-03 regulation.
Million-kilometer-level durability helps extend the service life of key components to better align with the vehicle’s long-term operating cycle, reducing the potential impact of premature core system replacement on operational continuity.
From energy replenishment efficiency and payload capacity to durability designed for million-kilometer-level operation, the CAVAN BEACON has been developed around the key requirements of long-term new-energy heavy-duty truck operation. Its official launch in Hannover also highlights BAIC FOTON’s continued progress in the new-energy heavy-duty truck segment, moving from breakthroughs in core technologies toward more integrated vehicle-system innovation.
